# Devices

Devices are individual products that are deployed permanently in production environments, such as fixed installations or machines. Every device plays a crucial role in the functioning of an organisation and requires accurate management. Not only can devices themselves be managed, their individual parts can also be registered separately and linked to a parent device through a tree structure. This provides a detailed overview of the entire installation. In addition, Eye on Data makes it possible to collect real-time measurements from these devices, so that you can continuously monitor their operational status. This allows maintenance to be carried out proactively, downtime to be avoided and the overall efficiency of your installations to be improved.

# Types

A device must always be assigned to a specific device type. This device type acts as an extensive data source in which all relevant information about the type of device is stored. This includes details such as the seller or supplier, physical dimensions, an image for visual recognition, a URL to more information or specifications, and price information. By linking devices to a device type, a standardised overview is created, which makes important data easily accessible and consistently manageable. This contributes to more efficient processes, such as stock management, ordering and price negotiations.

# Settings

The following settings are available for a device:

# General

This tab provides an overview of all the basic information needed to manage, maintain and trace devices in the system.

The General tab contains the basic information and settings of a device. Below is an overview of the fields and their functions:

  1. Name: The name or ID of the device. This can be a unique identifier, such as a serial number or an internal name for the device.

  2. Description: A short description of the device or its function. This can contain technical information, such as specific configurations or location information.

  3. Type: This dropdown menu indicates the type of device. It provides insight into the model and the function of the device.

  4. Parent item: Here a parent item can be selected, such as an overarching installation or group the device belongs to. In this example the device is assigned to "Wireless sensors and gateways".

  5. Type, Seller, Description:

    • Type: indicates the specific subcategory type of the device, such as "Pressure sensor".
    • Manufacturer: states the supplier of the device.
    • Description: a technical description of the model, for example "Model TV34-I", which indicates the specifications of the device.

  6. Installation date: The date on which the device was installed. This field is important for tracking maintenance and warranty periods.

  7. Warranty expiry date: The warranty date can be entered here. This helps to follow up when the warranty expires and maintenance may be needed.

  8. Last maintenance: This field can be used to register the date of the device's last maintenance. This is useful for maintenance planning and for tracking the health of the device.

  9. Code (serial number): The serial number or a unique identification code of the device. This is important for inventory and maintenance purposes (for example "SN: BC660GL24251049").

  10. Status code: This field can be used to show the current status of the device, such as active, under repair, out of service, etc.

  11. Colour: A field to optionally assign a colour to the device. This can be used for visual identification or classification of devices.

# Media

This tab provides an overview of all media items in the storage module.

# Location

This tab allows the location of the device to be configured.

# Measurements

This tab allows default measurement types to be linked to this device. These are typically taken over from the device type, but can therefore be overridden in this interface.

The indicative value can also be entered here.
